PEFC CERTIFICATION
Holzhof has chosen PEFC certification as a mark of eco-sustainability that can be a valid tool for all those companies that use wood and wish to know and trace the path of raw materials, from their origin to the final product.
Today, in fact, consumers are more aware and informed when choosing and purchasing products, and have also become more responsible and demanding with regard to environmental issues. PEFC certification ensures that timber from well-managed and sustainable forests can be traced through all subsequent stages of processing, right up to marketing. If this chain is correctly respected, the consumer will find an appropriate quality mark on the finished product.
Forest management certification' refers to a recognised and tested verification procedure leading to the issuing by an independent body of a certificate stating that forest management forms meet certain 'sustainability' requirements. A fundamental problem in the application of eco-certification systems consists precisely in the definition of criteria and indicators of 'sustainable forest management', i.e. quantitative and qualitative parameters that allow the environmental performance and sustainability of forest management systems to be periodically evaluated.

Specifically, PEFC certification guarantees "the management and use of forests and forest land in such a way and at such a rate as to maintain their biodiversity, productivity, regeneration capacity, vitality and potential to ensure important ecological, economic and social functions now and in the future at a local, national and global level and that does not cause damage to other ecosystems"'.

THE CRITERIA ON WHICH PEFC CERTIFICATION IS BASED:
PEFC certification is based on the following six criteria that establish a shared and common approach to the issue:

  •    Maintenance and appropriate development of forest resources and their contribution to the global carbon cycle;
  •    Maintenance of forest ecosystem health and vitality;
  •    Maintenance and promotion of the productive functions of forests (wood and non-wood products);
  •    Maintenance, conservation and adequate development of biological diversity in forest ecosystems;
  •    Maintenance and adequate development of protective functions in forest management (especially soil and water);
  •    Maintenance of other socio-economic functions and conditions.

Holzhof sells products made from PEFC-certified timber on request.
