ISO 14001

ISO 14001 is an international standard of a voluntary nature, applicable to all types of enterprise, that defines how to develop an effective environmental management system.

ISO 14001 certification is issued by an accredited independent body and demonstrates the actual commitment of a public or private company to minimising the environmental impact of its own processes, products and services, and attests to the reliability of the environmental management system being applied.

An environmental management system (EMS) permits:

  • a structured approach to the definition of environmental objectives and the identification of the tools necessary to achieve them;
  • the identification of the environmental risks and the opportunities for improvement;
  • the compliance with all requirements of standards relating to the environment;
  • the reduction of costs linked to energy consumption and the management of waste and raw materials;
  • the initiation of a process of continuous improvement in environmental performance;
  • an increase in the value of the enterprise in current and future markets on the basis of an in-depth analysis of the company’s own environmental problems of a legal, technical or managerial nature.

ISO 14001 is a standard applicable to any type of company in both the service or manufacturing sectors. The standard requires that the company defines its own environmental objectives and targets and implements an environmental management system to meet them.

The Environmental Management System (EMS) defined by ISO 14001 is based on the fundamental commitment of Senior Corporate Management to:

  • conformity with legislation;
  • continuous improvement;
  • prevention of pollution.
